YouTube streaming doesn’t count towards your data cap on T-Mobile

Google wasn’t on board with T-Mobile when they launched their uncarrier plan of not counting video towards the monthly data limit. The company even spoke out against T-Mobile throttling the YouTube video from 1080p or 720p to the lowly quality of 480p without their permission. Now, Google and T-Mobile have come together to bring YouTube to the Binge On program. Beyond YouTube and Google Play Music T-Mobile announced Baeble Music, Discovery GO, ESNE TV, FilmOn.TV, Fox Business, KlowdTV and Red Bull TV.

T-Mobile also is making it easier to opt out of Binge On entirely. Now you’re able to opt out of the program with an SMS quick code, two clicks in the T-Mobile app, or with one click on the T-Mobile website. They made the opt-out option easier as pressure mounts against the Binge On program. Many of the critics claim the uncarrier has violated the net neutrality rules set by the FTC. John Ledger, T-Mobile’s CEO, has been campaigning for his Binge On the program and has stirred up a lot of problems along the way.

T-Mobile is also introducing new options for video providers to opt out entirely from Binge On. The company will then identify the services video and ensure they’re not ‘optimizing’ or throttling the video to a lower quality. This will hopefully help T-Mobile stay under the rader and out of the news for their very questionable data work around.

The company did tout how more customers were watching videos and listening to music, because of the Music Freedom and Binge On. Its undeniable customers are enjoying not having to worry about if watching a video was going to push them over their data limit. Now a 2GB data cap doesn’t sound so small when music streaming and video streaming doesn’t count towards those caps, and they’re the biggest data consumers.

Tell us in the comments below if you’re a T-Mobile subscriber, or if you’re planning on switching since YouTube doesn’t count towards your data cap anymore.
